I began speaking Chinese when I was 18 years old. I graduated from Yale University with a major in East Asian Languages and History.
My English-teaching career began when I lived in Taiwan. There, I taught private students, in a high school, and at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (外交部) Diplomatic Training College. I have taught Cantonese speakers in San Francisco’s Chinatown.
I have also lived in Hong Kong and I travel often to China, Taiwan and Singapore.

SPECIAL ENGLISH PROBLEMS FOR CHINESE SPEAKERS
Great English is very possible to achieve for Chinese speakers.
English word order and Chinese word order are very close. The logical way of making a sentence is very similar in both languages.
There are some special problems for Chinese speakers. English grammar rules are more complicated than Chinese grammar rules. English has more tenses than Chinese. I make English tenses easy and fun in my Online English Classes for Chinese Speakers.
Chinese does not have singular and plural like English. Chinese verbs do not change in the “he/she/it” form the way English does. Not adding the “s” in the right place is a common problem for Chinese speakers. These are very important habits, but they are easy habits.

English does not have the four tones (四声) like Chinese. All English words only have one tone. But in English, the voice goes up and down in the sentence.
