COURSE LEVELS AND STRUCTURE
Our “textbook” in your personalized English Writing Lessons is, of course, your own writing.
We will examine and improve your writing on two levels. First, there is the English itself. Are you making grammar mistakes? Writing shows your level of English grammar very clearly. Writing is a good way to see your grammatical problems and explain things you do not understand. How is your vocabulary? Do you understand the meaning of the words you are using? That are the differences between two words that seem to mean the “same” thing. (The great American writer Mark Twain used to say – humorously, but truly: “If it meant the same thing, they wouldn’t have two words for it!”)
Then we examine your ideas. Are they clear? Are they in the correct order? Is your writing interesting? Are you saying everything you want to say? How are your transitions between ideas? Does the whole piece of writing flow smoothly?
This writing instruction – to New York Times standards of excellence – will make you a better writer in your own language as well. All of my writing students say that!

Essay and Report Writing
Many students in my English Writing Lessons are writing essays. These essays can be for school or college or graduate school applications. Other essays are for grant or job applications. The English Writing Lessons at LearnEnglish-NY include this kind of writing.
Most professionals need to write reports – long and short. Those will also improve in our English Writing Lessons.
The basic rules of good writing are the same for anything you write. In our English Writing Lessons, you will learn these rules from an expert. In all of our Online English Lessons at LearnEnglish-NY, you are the textbook! Our classes and courses are individually designed just for you.
Practice and Feedback
Some students come to our English Writing Lessons to improve a specific piece of writing. Others come to learn the basics of good English writing.
If you have a piece of writing that needs help, we will work on that. If you do not, I will give you exercises that will teach you the fundamentals of good English writing. If you are preparing for an exam, we will use the same time limits that you will have on the test.
